Check In Question: In honor of Victor’s dungeon, if you could be a Power Ranger, what color and creature would you be?
- Miranda: I always wanted be Kimberly, so pink and the pterodactyl. Lysithea would be the blue ranger with triceratops, but there would be purple in the blue.
- Ian: As a kid I always wanted to be the blue ranger, so blue ranger triceratops for sure. Professor would be a blue ranger, but sabertooth tiger.
- Kevin: Yellow because that’s the best color, and some sort of large birb. Gobbles would of course be the orange ranger with the Hydra-zord.
- Justice: I would be the green ranger with the dragonzord. Domathar would choose the red ranger and his zord would be the lobsterzord.
- Victor: I want to be the pink ranger with the dogzord. Draggy would be pink with a dire wolf-zord.
- Cordelia: I would be pink and my thing would be a unicorn. Surina would be a golden ranger with a owlbearzord.
- Liz: I would say yellow ranger with a tigerzord. Octavia would be the green ranger and she would have some kind of birdzord because she’s light on her feet.
When we last left the party they were deep within the cave system below Pupbaatt, the Tabaxi city of textiles. The cave system acts as a well for the town, but as the pools of water drain the Tabaxi have to dig further down. In their exploration, the party found a blocked off path with a warning sign on it, so of course that’s the way they went. They found statues of Dwarven gods, which were holding demons prisoner. Surina, in her trusting nature, pushed over one of the statues and released the demon Dumathar, who then released his friends. After defeating the demons the party was able to open the door to The God of Secrets Under the Mountain, revealing a treasure trove.
Professor has finally gotten the mechanical, clockwork, dragon warmachine to function (see Session 47 Part 2). Professor painted the outside with decorative flames, and “Surina and the Crystal Gems” on the sides so that the machine no longer looks like a Kobold war party. (Dexterity + intelligence check 25) Professor starts up the machine, revs up the engine, and begins to drive towards Pupbaatt. He is doing surprisingly well driving the vehicle, considering it takes 3 people to control it. With the aid of his son (homunculus servant) Professor drives up to the city.
Upon seeing the approaching vehicle the townsfolk begin to scream and run away. Guards rush out of the town, preparing to attack what they think is an incoming Kobold war party. Professor parks the vehicle, turns off the engine, and hops out. The confused guards take a closer look at the vehicle, see the painting on the side, and let out a sigh of relief. Professor takes off his giant riding goggles, and walks up to the front gate.
Guard: Welcome. Do you have a visitor’s pass?
Professor: Um, no. I, I… I just got here. Did you not see me just drive up?
Guard: Right. But you can’t enter the city without a visitor pass.
Professor: Okay. Give me one.
Guard: I will happily sell you one. 5 gold.
Professor: Oh. Oh. Yup. Yeah. That was so easy.
Professor hands the guard 5 gold and the gate opens.
Guard: Enjoy your stay!
Professor: Th… thank you.
The temple priest, who was watching the spectacle of Professor driving up, rushes up to greet him.
Priest: Greetings, Sir Dwarf.
Professor: Hello Kitty.
Priest: I am a priest of Bastet. Kitty is not my name. But I assume you are with the other travelers.
Professor: Yes. The tall one, the little one, and then HER. A dragon. And some sort of demon.
Priest: Yeah, it sounds like them. You missed a good show. They put on an exhibition match for us.
Professor: Ah. Lovely.
Priest: But now they’ve broken into the cave that leads to our water. Well, they didn’t exactly break in. They completely confused the guard on duty and he just let them in.
Professor: Sounds like them.
Priest: So I will direct you to them.
The priest leads Professor through the town, until they come upon the entrance to the cave.
Priest: Good luck. They’ve probably gotten lost down there.
Professor: I’ll find them.
As Professor begins to descend he can hear the sounds of battle echoing through the caves. Professor begins to casually stroll towards the source of the sounds. He finds the party right as Gobbles is scooping up the remains of a Shoosuva.
Gobbles: Bye, George. You were a good doggy.
He can see on the ground the smashed statues of the Dwarven deities, and a door open to a hoard of treasure.
Professor: Ahem. Hello!
Lysithea: Oh, hi Professor. So lovely of you to join us.
Gobbles: Oh, hi Professor! Did you see our dog?
Lysithea: Gobbles, no…
Gobbles: It was a good dog.
Lysithea: Gobbles, no. It wanted to eat you.
Gobbles: Dogs like to eat a lot of things. I can’t blame them for that.
Lysithea: Did you get the car to work?
Professor: Oh yeah!
Lysithea: Good. At least something is going well today.
The party takes a minute to fill in Professor on the events of the past day, including the exhibition match, finding and destroying one of Rhu’s items, their exploration in the cave, and how Gobbles wanted to make one of the demons his dog.
Gobbles: Oh it was my dog. It was our dog.
Lysithea: Leave me out of this.
Gobbles: And his name was George and he was our bestest friend.
Lysithea: Gobbles, no…
Surina: He was not our bestest friend!
Professor: What a good pup. Great pup. Anyway.
The party now turns their attention to the large room filled with treasure. It is at this point that Octavia shows up.
Lysithea: Octavia, where have you been?
Octavia: Uh…
Octavia Flashback
After the exhibition match Octavia needed a break to refresh physically and mentally. She went with the party to The Cat’s Paw, but got her own table for herself. She leaves a pouting Onza outside in fear that she may try to eat one of the cats. Going inside, she happily put on the ears and cat tail she was given, and squealed with delight at the cat she was given to dine with.
Octavia: This is my type of place!
She dances merrily in her seat to the pop music playing. She is so content, eating Kitty Kats and drinking milk tea, that she doesn’t notice the party getting up to leave. A while later, Octavia looks out the window and sees Professor being led somewhere by the priest. She lets out a sigh, leaves her happy place, and follows Professor.
End Octavia Flashback
Octavia: … Around.
Lysithea: I love how everyone is getting here after the hard part.
Octavia: Of course!
And now the looting may begin. The trove is filled with Dwarven statues, knick-knacks, and artifacts. There are also quite a few magical items. Professor, as an artificer and creator of magical goods, notices a large anvil that appears to be carriable. The party has no way of knowing what this anvil is. Coincidentally, Lysithea finds a book with one spell inside – Identify. Lysithea is unable to cast the spell, but multi-class expert Gobbles can! He snatches the book and ritual casts Identify. The anvil is a Jeweler’s Anvil. Professor’s eyes light up with delight, and he claims the anvil for himself. They also find a light hammer with an attachable mechanism that Gobbles identifies to be a Hammer of Throwing. Professor tests it out, attaching the hammer to his arm, then launches it across the room. The hammer hits the wall, then returns back to his arm.
Octavia: It’s a hammer-rang!
They also come across some scale mail. Gobbles tries casting identify, but it doesn’t quite work. The only thing he can identify is the name – Sacred Mountain Armor.
Gobbles: I don’t know what this is. Professor, use your beard.
Professor has a giant mustache, not a beard, so he rubs the armor on his face. As he rubs it, Professor notices the symbol of The Keeper of Secrets Under the Mountain inscribed on it (history 15). There is a legend of elite Dwarven soldiers who would wear specially forged armor in battle. As incredible as this is, Professor just received his family armor, and respectfully places the scale mail down. Right next to it he finds a set of plate mail.
Gobbles: Let me try this again.
Gobbles tries to identify this set of armor, but once again he only gets a name – Champion’s Plate.
Gobbles: Surina, this is for you.
Surina happily tries the armor on, and her smile lights up the room as she feels the upgrade to her armor. Octavia finds a bow, and Gobbles identifies it to be an Ensaring Bow.
Octavia: Oooh, me likey.
There is no gold or jewels in the hoard. The rest of the items all look like things that should be in a museum. Half of the party is hurting and low on magic, and evening is approaching. The cave does descend past the treasure room, but the party decides that they need to rest and inform the priest about the treasure before continuing. Lysithea heads to the temple to find the priest, while the rest of the party guards the room.
Lysithea: So, we have another donation.
Priest: Excellent!
He holds out his hand, expecting money. Lysithea grabs his hand and starts leading him to the caves.
Lysithea: Follow me.
Priest: I’m not going down there! There’s evil!
Lysithea: Yeah, we defeated a lot of it. We have something very important to show you.
Priest: Okay…
Lysithea: There were a few demons, but we defeated them. So at least the area I’m taking you to there’s nothing terrifying.
Priest: Then lead the way.
The party can almost hear the “cha-ching” sound in the priest’s head and see money signs in his eyes as he beholds the room of treasure.
Priest: Oh! I will get workers down here…
Lysithea: These artifacts belong in a museum.
Priest: And we have a museum.
Lysithea: Great! Can we come back here tomorrow after taking a nap because there’s still more bad things down here?
Priest: I’ll arrange it.
Lysithea: Thank you!
Gobbles: That will also give me time to arrange a finders fee. Good night!
The party leaves the cave and heads back towards the inn.
Innkeeper: Welcome. Staying another night?
Lysithea: Yes.
Innkeeper: Oh, you all look very beat up.
Gobbles: Thank you.
Innkeeper: That will be… 10 gold each. You all did so wonderful at the exhibition match.
Lysithea: Yes, that’s wonderful. We didn’t get paid for it, though. So why has the price gone up 5 times? We paid 2 gold for one night, we’ll pay 2 gold again.
Innkeeper: Well, you all are celebrities.
Lysithea: That doesn’t mean we can afford it. We got paid nothing from that match.
Innkeeper: I was told we would offer you a deal, and you didn’t take it. Oh, also, paperwork showed up for you.
Lysithea: Oh, you work for that guy.
Gobbles: Oh no! Paperwork showed up!
Lysithea: Have a nice day!
Gobbles: I’m going to go sleep by where we stabbed our dog. Bye!
Lysithea and Gobbles rush out, followed by the rest of the party.
Innkeeper: But, the paperwork is here!
The party is already gone.
Lysithea: Let’s go sleep in the car. Professor, bring the car inside.
Professor: It won’t fit.
Gobbles: I mean, if you crash it in hard enough…
The party decides to go sleep in the caves. They don’t descend too far, as there are already workers in the treasure room excavating the artifacts. They find a nice little nook where they can sleep. Compared to some of the other places they’ve slept, it isn’t too bad. (Wisdom saving throw Surina 17, Gobbles 11, Octavia 14, Lysithea 16, Professor 8) However, the sound of workers mixed with the cave floor leads everyone except Surina to have a rough night’s sleep. (Constitution save Gobbles 8, Octavia 8, Lysithea 24, Professor 11) Gobbles and Octavia each suffer a level of exhaustion. Lysithea, used to functioning on minimal sleep from studying, is fine. Professor is also fine, since he didn’t participate in either the exhibition match or the demon fight.
By morning, a lot of the artifacts from the treasure room had been removed. The party descends further into the cave. They notice there are more filled pools of water further down, but the majority are still drained. The walls are gradually becoming more solid, the cave walls turning into constructed walls. There used to be something here (Professor Stonecunning Nat1).
Professor: I think these are made of glass. If you hit it, it will shatter. Nobody hit the wall.
Octavia: Uh, Professor?
Lysithea: Professor, you feeling okay?
Professor: I got a car. Did I tell you?
Lysithea: That’s great…
Gobbles: You might be breathing a little too much exhaust from it.
Octavia: Yes, good job…
At the end of the cave there is a door. Lysithea casts her Mage Armor in anticipation.
It is at this point that Justice steps out of the DMs seat and Victor takes over. Justice helped Victor create the layout for the dungeon, but a lot of the dungeon we are about to explore was created by Victor. Some of it was preplanned, some of it he created on the spot. Justice will play as Draggy while Victor DMs. I will use the descriptors Victor uses to describe what we experience. And so the heroes approach the door at the end of the cave…
The door is big and heavy, and needs to be pushed hard to open. Surina (strength 11) tries to open the door, but she alone is not strong enough to open the door. Draggy walks up to help his sister (strength Nat20)…
Draggy: I got this.
… hits the door with his fist, and Fonzie’s the door open. Right away, the party is confronted by a Black Dragon.
All of the players immediately freak out. This is just the first room! Victor describes the dragon as big with powerful moves. When asked if this was a full grown black dragon, Victor responds, “Yes!” Justice kicks in and says no. Gordon, Justice’s character for Cordelia’s dungeon, was killed by a young red dragon.
(Nature Lysithea 9, Octavia 9, Gobbles 17, Surina 6) Gobbles knows that black dragons are powerful and strong, cruel, have acid breath, and can sometimes cast Thunderwave and Mega Punch. (Initiative Gobbles 17, Professor Nat20, Lysithea adjusted 20, Octavia 15, Surina 19, Draggy 18, Black Dragon 17).
Begin Black Dragon Fight
Professor reaches into his bag and throws out Spider-Bro 10 feet in front of him. Spider-Bro shoots at the dragon (attack 21) and hits for 11 points of force damage, pushing the dragon into the back wall of the room. Lysithea panics for a second, remembering the encounter with the Red Mist, but centers herself and Fireballs the room. (Black Dragon dexterity 19) The dragon is quick and sees the Fireball coming, and is able to shield itself from some of the damage, taking only 19 fire damage. Surina remains cautious and doesn’t enter the room, choosing to throw javelins at the dragon instead (attack 25). The first javelin breaks through the dragon’s shield, striking the dragon for 9 damage. (Attack 15) Unfortunately the second javelin bounces off of the dragon’s shield. Draggy rushes in (attack 13) and tries to Power Punches the dragon straight in the mouth, but he doesn’t hit. (Attack 25) Draggy then kicks the dragon in the shin for 12 damage.
Gobbles: Ah, big dragon!
Victor is very excited to announce whose turn is next and when they hit or miss. His excitement and enthusiasm is contagious and adorable. In between rolls, he continuously describes how powerful the dragon is, that the best way to defeat it is to hit its tail.
Gobbles casts Fairie Fire on the Dragon to highlight its tail (dragon dexterity save 24), but the dragon swings its tail out of the way. Gobbles decides to enter the room and hide behind a pillar, then casts Hexblade’s curse on the dragon. Now it is the dragon’s turn. First, it casts Thunderwave on Gobbles and Draggy (constitution save Gobbles 17, Draggy 9). Gobbles and Draggy each take only 6 damage, Gobbles for leaping to avoid some of the attack, and Draggy because of his resistance. Draggy, however, is no longer able to move. Octavia holds Onza back because she doesn’t want the panther underneath a dragon’s foot. She then casts Hunter’s Mark on the dragon, aims her new Ensnaring bow at it and fires (attack 15, 25). The first arrow bounces off the dragon’s shield, but the second one lands in its neck for 12 damage. (Dragon constitution save 20) Vines begin to ensnare the dragon, but he is able to shake them off.
Professor takes a shot at the dragon with his light crossbow. The first arrow misses, but the second (attack adjusted 20) hits for 5 damage. Spider-Bro shoots again (attack 14), but misses, then walks 10 feet forward. Lysithea, in hopes to reserve her spells for whatever else may be down here, chooses this time to shoot a Firebolt (attack 17), but the dragon’s shield protects it.
Surina: Goodbye forever!
Surina activates her Flametongue sword as she rushes in and charges at the dragon (attack 23). Her sword pierces the dragon for 5 piercing and 2 fire damage. Unsatisfied with her attack, Surina swings again (attack 10), but she swings too wide. Draggy takes his Berserk warhammer and Power Punches the ground (dragon strength 10), which causes the dragon to fall prone. Draggy tries to flip the dragon over (attack 15), but he is unable to. Gobbles squeezes himself behind the dragon, trying to see how hurt the dragon is. He decides to swing is warhammer at the dragon (attack 19) and hits for 4 bludgeoning damage and 4 from Hexblade’s Curse. The dragon eats some of his food before attacking Gobbles (attack 14), but he misses his tiny target. Frustrated, he attacks Gobbles again (attack 24), but Gobbles reacts with Shield to protect himself. The dragon turns its focus to Draggy (attack 5), but misses its attack. With the dragon still upside down, Octavia sends Onza in to bite at its feet (attack 19). Onza sinks her teeth into the dragon’s foot for 7 piercing damage. Octavia then fires two arrows at the dragon with her new bow (attack 16, 15), but the dragon rolls around on the floor and both shots miss.
Professor fires a Firebolt at the rolling dragon (attack 24), and hits for 12 fire damage. Spider-Bro then takes its shot (attack 15), but misses.
Lysithea: WHY IS THERE A DRAGON IN HERE?!
Lysithea also tries Firebolt (attack 26) and hits for 10 fire damage. (Victor: Mom, how do you want to do it?) The Firebolt hits the dragon’s nose and it goes up in purple flames.
End Black Dragon Fight
Victor: Next one… *rubs his hands together menacingly*
With the dragon defeated the rest of the party enter the room, and they begin to look around. There are pillars 6 standing in the room in 2 rows of 3, and 2 doors. Remembering the dungeon they went through with the Red Mist, Lysithea puts her ear up to the gated door and listens for anything that might be on the other side (perception Nat20). She hears some stuff, like one monster walking around.
Lysithea: There is definitely at least one big thing in this room.
Octavia: Okay, we are not going that way, yet.
Lysithea puts her ear up to the next door and hears something wiggly (described as wiggly eyes) coming from the other side.
Lysithea: Okay, so there’s something wiggling on the other side of this door. Do we want to try the room with the monster or the wiggly room first?
Octavia: I don’t know, wiggling sounds kind of gross.
Surina: I want to try opening *points to wiggly room* this one.
Surina tries to open the door, but it’s locked. She tries to break open the door (athletics 16), but the door doesn’t budge. Draggy decides to inspect the pillars. The pillars have switches on them. Draggy walks up to one of the levers and pulls it, and it explodes on him! (Dexterity save Nat20) Luckily Draggy jumps out of the way and takes no damage.
Gobbles: Oh, that looked cool!
Gobbles walks up to the next pillar and pulls the switch. (Dexterity save 12) Gobbles just makes it out of the way as spikes burst out of the pillar. Professor has his son pull one of the switches. (Dexterity save 17) The homunculus swerves out of the way as a ray of frost tries to freeze it. Surina takes a turn at a switch. (Dexterity save 4) Surina takes 2 damage as hot water pours over her head. Lysithea tries her hand at pulling a switch. (Dexterity save 4) A giant boot springs forth and kicks Lysithea to the room entrance. She takes 1 bludgeoning damage from the kick to the back.
Lysithea: OW! There’s only one left. Octavia, do you want to pull it?
Octavia: Nope!
Draggy pulls the last lever and… the doors unlock. Surina charges into the wiggly room! This is a mystery room, where everything is a mystery. The party walks in and inspects the mysteries. There are little creatures walking around, plus floor switches, and the party needs to be careful not to step on them. Octavia quickly grabs the party around her and casts Pass Without Trace (stealth Gobbles 24, Octavia 23, Surina 26, Lysithea 23, Draggy 12, Professor 25). The party carefully begins to tiptoe around the room, but Draggy loses focus and steps on a floor switch. BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! A monster appears! The monster has 2 tails, a lot of pincers, 99 heads, 100 feet, but only 1 eye. It’s called the Pincer Pincer Pincer.
Lysithea: What is that thing?
Professor: A nightmare.
Begin Pincer Pincer Pincer Fight
The Pincer Pincer Pincer barrels towards Draggy anid tries to hit him (attack Nat1), but rushes right past him. It turns around and lashes out again at Draggy (attack 15), but Draggy dodges. The monstrosity swings both of its tails at Draggy (attack 9, attack 15), but, lucky for Draggy, both attacks miss. Professor aims a Firebolt at his eye (attack adjusted 20). The bolt strikes the monster in its 1 eye for 19 damage, and one of the heads falls off. Spider-Bro enters the room and fires at the Pincer Pincer Pincer (attack 22). The 21 force damage causes more heads to fall off, plus some of its feet. Gobbles begins to rock himself in the corner, terrified of this Eldritch horror. Lysithea stays in the doorway and shoots a Firebolt at the monster’s eye (attack 19). The 10 fire damage knocks the rest of the heads and feet loose, and they fall to the floor. The Pincer Pincer Pincer is just a body now. Surina rushes in to help her brother and swings her sword at the body (attack 18). Her attack does 8 slashing and 5 fire damage. The body falls to the ground.
The party things they are victorious, but all of the heads on the floor are still alive! (Attack Draggy 18, Lysithea 4, Gobbles 14, Octavia 25, Surina 8) The party begins to stomp and punch at the heads on the floor, poofing them out of existence as they hit. The remaining heads begin to merge together into one singular, giant head and leap to attack Lysithea (attack 16). The now giant mouth hits Lysithea for 5 damage.
Lysithea: EW!!!!
Draggy (attack Nat20) swings his battleaxe at the monster for a devastating 29 damage. The monster shrinks down and explodes!
End Pincer Pincer Pincer Battle
Lysithea: What is this place?!
Gobbles: Terrifying.
Octavia: *hiding in the shadows* I don’t know! Ah!
Lysithea: So let’s explore the room now without hitting that switch again.
Lysithea inspects the switch Draggy had stepped on and noticed it was red, meaning bad switch. She decides to keep a look out for a green switch, which would be a good switch. On the wall she finds a green switch and pushes it (d20 roll 18). Good monsters appear, and they give each of the party members a big mushroom. The mushrooms will give them more powerful moves that will only work in this dungeon. Lysithea gains the move Super Fireball, which is an upgraded Firebolt. Surina gets Super Mega Punch. Octavia gets Chicken Rain – if she fires an arrow it will rain chickens. Gobbles gets Grab Tight – if he hugs a monster it auto-defeats it and they disappear. Professor gets Super Kick, which will send monsters to the beginning of the dungeon. Draggy gets Giant Ax, which causes his ax to grow even bigger and deal more damage.
Octavia: Okay, we need to find a reason for me to make it rain chickens.
Draggy: Let’s go to that other room and fight the monster in there.
The party exits the mystery room to the room where they fought the Black Dragon and prepares to open the gated door with the monster behind it. The door is still unlocked. The party takes a deep breath before entering, terrified of what they may find. Surina eagerly volunteers to go in first.
Lysithea: Does anyone want to go in with Surina?
Octavia: Nope.
Lysithea and Octavia at the same time: Gobbles?
Gobbles goes first with Surina. Draggy, Professor, and the homunculus go in next, and Lysithea, Octavia, and Onza bring up the rear. Surina peaks her head around the corner and sees a Catoblepas. (Nature Professor 19) The creature has the body of a wildebeest atop the legs of an elephant. At the ends of its elongated neck is the head and snout of a warthog, and angry bloodshot eyes. It smells of death and swamp. Plus it has 100 tails. Its name is Swampy Swamp and its moves are really powerful (initiative 10).
Begin Catoblepas Fight
Professor comes out from around the corner, staying as far away from the beast as possible, and shoots a Firebolt (attack 22). The bolt goes around his tummy and hits its back for 18 fire damage. Spider-Bro rounds the corner and gets into range and fires (attack 24), hitting for 20 force damage. Swampy Swamp is getting angry. Lysithea leans around the corner, shoots her Super Fireball (attack 23), hits the monster in the back for 17 fire damage, then hides back around the corner. Surina rounds the corner, runs up to the monster, and goes in for a Super Mega Punch (attack 25, 14). She clocks the monster with a left hook and a right hook for a total 17 damage. Swampy Swamp is super angry now! Draggy jumps up on the table next to the monster and uses his Giant Ax (attack 15) and smacks the Catoblepas flat like a pancake, dealing 4 damage. Gobbles casts Magic Missile for a total 9 damage. (Kevin, how do you want to do this?) The first two missiles pop the monsters legs out, and the third missile boops it on the snoot. Swampy Swamp beings to melt, and a fire starts in the next room.
End Catoblepas Fight
Lysithea quickly uses Thaumaturgy to put out the fire. They peek their eyes around the corner and see a long, narrow hallway. Draggy decides to go first down the hallway and BEEP! BEEP! Activates a trap. A monster appears at the end of the hallway! Its name is Bloody, and it is a gray slaad.
Begin Gray Slaad Fight
Bloody tries to take a bite out of Draggy (attack 12), but its teeth cannot pierce Draggy’s armor. It then swings its bloody claws at Draggy (attack 16, 24), hitting Draggy once for 13 damage. He sucks up Draggy’s blood as he hits. Octavia climbs up on the table at the hallway entrance, casts Hunter’s Mark, and fires Chicken Rain at the slaad (attack 20). Her arrow pierces the slaad for 10 piercing damage. Then (1d6 = 5) 5 chickens rain down from the sky and begin to peck the slaad, dealing 7 additional damage. Octavia fires again, but misses. Professor feels his strategies have been working very well for him, and continues with the same method. He starts with a Firebolt (attack 19), and hits Bloody for 25 fire damage. The attack doesn’t seem to be as effective as Professor was hoping. Spider-Bro moves in and fires at the slaad (attack Nat1), but the attack backfires and Spider-Bro flips around. Seeing that the fire wasn’t as effective, Lysithea casts Chill Touch (attack 12), but misses. Surina runs up to the slaad and uses her Super Mega Punch again (attack Nat20). She feels divine power as she hits, and activates Divine Smite. The punch deals 14 bludgeoning and 29 radiant damage. Draggy takes out his Giant Ax and smashes the slaad (attack 26). The slaad gets smashed flat as it takes 9 damage. Draggy attacks again (attack Nat20), smashing the slaad even flatter with 28 damage and stealing any money the slaad had. Gobbles scampers over and under his comrades, and attempts to use Grab Tight. He gives Bloody a giant hug (attack 25) and the slaad POOFS out of existence.
Gobbles: I did a thing!
Octavia: You hugged it to death! Nobody hug Gobbles in here.
Gobbles: Forever alone…
Thistle: New friend! What is this power?
Gobbles: I don’t know, but I like it!
Thistle hugs Gobbles head to see if Gobbles disappears.
Gobbles: Hey!
Thistle: Aw, I don’t have that power…
There is still much left of this dungeon to explore. To be continued. End Session.

Analysis: WOW! What a crazy dungeon! The imaginations of children are boundless and fascinating, and sometimes terrifying. Victor is a natural DM. His enthusiasm and energy is unmatched by any DM I’ve seen. After the black dragon fight he started to get a little over excited and kept saying what was happening during other people’s turns. We kept redirecting him, explaining that when it’s the players’ turns he needs to listen and respond/react, and he was respectful each time. He absolutely loves Kevin, so naturally he wanted all of his attacks to hit Gobbles. The Pincer Pincer Pincer was created right on the spot, horrifying everyone at the table. The other monsters were pre-planned and followed the attacks and stats of the books they are in. My favorite thing is that he already knows how to balance. He threw several monsters at us and tried to hurt us, but he also gave us boons and had good monsters help us. Hold on to your seats, because part 2 is coming next and it will knock your socks off!
Note: Information about the items the party found in the treasure room can be found in Kobold Press’s Vault of Magic for 5th Edition.
