Alenia begins to conduct and music from nowhere begins to play. The party feels energy begin to swirl around them, and they are teleported…
They find themselves standing in a field outside of Pupbaatt. The area is grasslands for miles. They aren’t exactly close to the city, but they can see it in the distance. After blinking a few times, the party realizes they have been teleported in the middle of an incoming battle. (Initiative K’un-Lun 25, Octavia 22, Gobbles 18, Lysithea 20, Professor 11, Surina 8, Draggy 19)
To the south they see huge walls of wood and fields of cotton. To the north they see the Moford Mountains. Coming from the mountains they see a warband, smoke billowing out of 2 large, mechanical dragons on wheels (perception Gobbles Nat20+10, Octavia 10, Lysithea 6, KL 6, Surina 7).
Gobbles: What the whatthe what the what the what?
They are Kobold Warmachines, with Kobolds both inside manning the machine and Kobolds on top ready to attack. Their scales are glistening a bit in the sunlight, but the smoke from the machines is blocking most of the light around them.
Gobbles: If we can subdue it we get to own it ourselves.
Professor: So don’t blow it up?
Gobbles: Don’t blow it up. You can artifice the wheels back on later so we can have a car!
Lysithea: What’s a car?
Gobbles: It’s a thing we’re gonna have!
Professor: We need gas.
There are also two Giffs.
K’un-Lun: Aw, they’re so cute.
Gobbles: They have grenades.
Lysithea: It hurts. They also don’t like magic.
Gobbles: They don’t like fire.
Lysithea: That, too.
Gobbles: Or is it that they don’t like fire because you lit them all on fire?
Walking along the Giff are more Kobolds. Behind the line of the warband is a figure cloaked in white.
Lysithea: Kill it! Kill it with fire!
The warband is heading towards the Tabaxi city of Pupbaatt, ready to fire. Lysithea casts her Mage Armor in preparation.
Begin Warband Battle
K’un-Lun gets close to the ground and proceeds to sneak towards the warband (stealth 18) and preps Patient Defense. Octavia casts Pass Without Trace, covering the whole party in shadows, to help conceal them. She and Onza then sneak forward to get a better attacking position. Lysithea chooses to announce her presence. She stands up and casts Wall of Fire straight across the warband, catching almost the entire warband save a couple of Kobolds and the cloaked figure. A 20ft tall, 60ft long wall of purple flame ignites, dealing 35 fire damage to those that didn’t jump out of the way, and 17 to those that did. Lysithea then immediately ducks. The cloaked figure in the back reveals himself to be a mage and dispels the wall. Gobbles hides (sneak 25), then prepares to Misty Step into one of the warmachines when they get into range. One of the Giffs moves forward and angles his musket towards Lysithea and fires twice. Lucky for Lysithea, her Mage Armor protects her. Professor inches forward and casts Wind Wall. The force of wind not only deals 11 bludgeoning damage, but clears away the smoke from the warmachines. Now that the party can see clearly they can tell that the Kobolds are sapphire (arcana Professor 27, Lysithea 25). Sapphire Kobolds are militant territorial and are resistant to lightning and thunder. One of the warmachines begins to drive forward and spits fire first towards Lysithea. Lysithea is resistant to fire and takes only 7 damage. The warmachine turns and spews fire towards Professor. Professor has a Ring of Resist Fire, and takes only 6 damage. The machine turns back towards Lysithea, but this time she is able to leap out of the way. Surina begins to creep through the field (sneak 13), then dashes to get as close as possible to her targets. The second warmachine moves forward and spits fire at Lysithea for 3 damage, then at Professor but misses. It turns back towards Lysithea and fires a massive blaze (attack Nat20), but she luckily only takes 13 damage. Lysithea is getting mad. The warband begins to move forward, through the Wind Wall, taking more damage from the wall. The other Giff moves forward and fires his musket at Lysithea, but misses twice.
K’un-Lun and Octavia see the look in Lysithea’s eye and decide to hold until she does whatever it is about to do.
Lysithea: I’m going to try something new.
Lysithea walks forward, making sure she will not hit her friends, then casts Cone of Cold at the party. A 60ft cone of snow and ice bursts forth from Lysithea’s hands, hitting everything except for the mage. The majority of the warband is surprised by this attack, and only one Giff manages to duck to take partial damage. The lucky Giff takes only 29 damage, and everyone else takes 59 cold damage. As the cone dissipates 3 Kobolds and one Giff are frozen statues of solid ice. They will eventually melt and water the fields.
Lysithea: That was cool. I guess I can do other things besides fire.
K’un-Lun then rushes in and pummels the remaining Giff (attack 23, 29, 24). He stomps on both of his feet, then deals a devastating uppercut. The Giff blinks slowly, then falls down dead. K’un-Lun then uses his Touch of Death and absorbs his life force. Octavia takes aim at the mage and fires 2 arrows (attack 14, 12). The mage stands eerily calm as the arrows whizz past his head. The mage begins to concentrate, and this blood red mist begins to fill a 20ft radius area, catching Professor, Lysithea, and Octavia (constitution saving throw Octavia Nat20, Lysithea 19, Professor 12). Luckily K’un-Lun is out of range, and the mage cannot see Gobbles or Surina. Professor takes 47 necrotic damage and is now incapacitated. Professor loses concentration and the Wind Wall fades. Octavia and Lysithea take 23 damage, but are able to resist the effect. Gobbles Misty Steps into one of the Warmachines and is now face to face with the Kobold in the driver’s seat.
Gobbles: You might want to get out of here… NOW!
Gobbles casts Dissonant Whispers on the Kobold, but the Kobold was more surprised by Gobbles than afraid. Gobbles’s voice still did 6 psychic damage to the Kobold. Professor dazedly wanders out of the circle of red mist, then shakes his head to clear his mind. One of the warmachines continues to drive forward and spews more fire at Lysithea for 5 damage. The machine then turns to fire at Professor, but Gobbles shouts and the gunman gets startled and fires straight up instead. It then turns towards Octavia, but she is too quick and leaps out of the way. The other warmachine moves forward and does the same thing, firing at Lysithea, Professor, and Octavia. It almost hits Professor, but he reacts with Shield. The warmachine misses its attacks against Lysithea and Octavia.
Surina: GOODBYE FOREVER!
Surina’s flametongue sword ignites, and she runs forward and begins to slice at one of the warmachines (attack Nat20). Her mighty swing deals 16 slashing and 11 fire damage. As she slices she activates Divine Smite, dealing an additional 35 radiant damage. She swings again (attack 13), but the force from her previous swing throws off her aim and she misses.
K’un-Lun runs forward and stands directly in front of the mage. He can now see below the cloak the mage is wearing a metal mask.
K’un-Lun: I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU SO MUCH!
K’un-Lun begins to throw punches at the mage (attack 15, 19). His first swing deflects off of some form of mist, but the second makes contact, for 9 damage. He then uses Flurry of Blows (attack 15, Nat20). Frustrated with 2 of his attacks missing, K’un-Lun lands a heavy blow to the mage’s gut for 15 more damage. Octavia and Onza leave the mist and stand next to Lysithea. She takes aim at the mage, casting Hunter’s Mark, and releases 2 arrows at him (attack 18, 12). The first arrow pierces the mage’s shoulder for 12 damage, but the second falls short. She then sics Onza on one of the warmachines. Onza bites at the machine (attack 21), and rips off a bit of the metal with her mighty jaws for 4 damage. Lysithea scooches to the side to have a better view of the mage, then fires 3 Scorching Rays at him (attack adjusted 20, 11, Nat20). The first ray deals 9 damage, the second goes wide, and the third hits for another 9 damage. The mage attacks K’un-Lun with a Blood Lash. K’un-Lun ducks out of the way of the whip of blood, but gets smacked on the back on the second for 20 necrotic damage. The third attack whips him across the arm for 20 more damage. Gobbles casts Arms of Hadar at 3rd level inside the warmachine. Colorful pool noodles pop up and begin to wrap around and smack the Kobolds inside the machine. Each Kobold takes 20 damage from being smacked with pool noodles. Suddenly, the massive clockwork dragon winds down and stops moving as all of the Kobolds manning it have died. The party looks at the warmachine and can now see Gobbles triumphantly screaming, holding the reins of the warmachine with pool noodles flailing about inside. Gobbles doesn’t quite realize that the warmachine takes 3 people to man it. Thistle hops off of Gobbles’s head and takes control of the guns.
Thistle: Well, new friend, we probably can shoot, but moving is another thing.
Goggles magically appear on Thistle’s head and he puts them over his eyes, excited about something new that can make things go boom. Professor throws out Spide- Bro, then Misty Steps inside the warmachine next to Gobbles.
Professor: I heard you needed a third.
Gobbles: Yes!
With Gobbles, Professor, and Thistle now inside they can control the warmachine. Surina continues to hit the other warmachine (attack 12, 25). The first attack slides off the side of the machine, so she lunges her sword straight forward into its side for 9 slashing and 7 fire damage. Sudden clicking noises begin, growing faster and faster till suddenly…
BOOM!
The machine explodes. A single Kobold can be seen being thrown from the explosion, landing face first in the dirt several meters away.
K’un-Lun really wants this mage to go down and throws his fists furiously at him, aiming for a Stunning Strike (attack 16). Even though his fist hits flesh, the mage resists the stun. K’un-Lun punches with the other fist (attack 24), and does a combined total of 20 damage. The mage doubles over from being constantly pummeled. Octavia tries again to hit the mage (attack 14, adjusted 20), and is able to pierce his other shoulder with one arrow for 14 damage. Lysithea unleashes a whip of psychic energy at the mage, casting Tasha’s Mind Whip. The mage takes 12 psychic damage, and takes the full effect of the spell. The mage once again casts Blood Boil, this time on the warmachine. The red blood mist fills the area, surrounding Professor, Thistle, Gobbles, and Onza (constitution saves Professor 21, Onza 19, Gobbles 18, Thistle 10). Poor Thistle takes 45 damage, and the others take 22 damage. Gobbles Hellish Rebukes at 3rd level. A burst of confetti fire hits the mage for 23 fire damage, plus 9 Fury of the Small damage. The mage falls over, covered in scorch marks and confetti. Now only the Kobold thrown from the explosion remains.
Lysithea: Surina, grab the Kobold!
Surina stands over the Kobold, arms folded, and a very disapproving look on her face.
Kobold: Erm… hi…
K’un-Lun: Hi.
Surina and the Crystal Gems now have a Truckasaurus and a Kobold to question. End Session.

Spotlight on Another Player:
- Miranda: Ian for Professor’s backstory and redemption!
- Liz: I second that motion! I think that was an awesome backstory/redemption arc.
- Kevin: Ian as well. That, and the more subtle thing of his brother also being named Eustace.
- Cordelia: K’un-Lun and all the crazy things he did.
- Ian: Justice for bringing in something that could have actually killed me.
- Shannon: I liked Surina’s huge damage whack on the car.
- Justice: Shannon because he got into the character more and all the monk stuff. Also Ian for the backstory and making me improv.
Challenge or Something Learned:
- Miranda: My challenge was that it’s been so long since we’ve played I forgot half of my spells.
- Liz: It was really hard remembering everything after such a long break.
- Kevin: After not having played in a couple of weeks, getting this character confused with the other game we play.
- Cordelia: Since we haven’t played in a while I think I forgot some of my spells. And some of my dice didn’t like me.
- Ian: Maybe after a really devastating AOE don’t get close to somebody again cause you might die forever. I also totally forgot about my son.
- Shannon: I learned that I should sneak more. I didn’t know how good my stealth was.
- Justice: We haven’t played and I need to work on balancing 6 players with level 9.
Hope or Prediction for Next Session:
- Miranda: I predict that Gobbles is going to go straight for the cat bar.
- Kevin: Wanting to see what Justice does with these random buildings and features we added to the city.
- Liz: I hope we just have a gewd time.
- Cordelia: I hope my uncles can play again next week.
- Ian: I predict we’re gonna get drawn into some sort of conflict between the Tabaxi and the Kobolds and Giffs.
- Shannon: I hope we get into a race or something with the car.
- Justice: My hope is that everyone can come again next time.
Analysis: This was the first session we had played in several weeks. Many of us forgot what spells we had and had a little trouble getting back into combat. Cordelia, however, fell right back into place. Her dice were a bit rusty and she got frustrated at one point, in a silly way, but she was able to recover quickly after being talked down and reminded of how bad her Uncle Ian always rolls. She actually roleplayed a lot more than was written in this transcript; however, she was talking in her silly voice and wasn’t annunciating, so I couldn’t understand what she was saying a lot of the time. This is something we will continue to work with alongside her Speech teacher.
