Check In Question: It’s been a long time. How is everyone doing?
- Miranda: I am tired and stressed all the time. Lysithea is also tired and stressed all the time.
- Victor: Good. Blobby can’t talk, but he’s bad because he always sleeps.
- Kevin: Normal work stresses but other than that I’m doing great. Gobbles is hanging out with people and doing fantastic.
- Cordelia: I’m good. Surina is good, too.
- Hannah: I got a new job and I think I’m doing okay with that, but I think I need to seek help soon for other adulting things. Alba is out of the loop because she missed the end of the dungeon, so she’ll need some catching up. Confused as usual.
- Justice: I’m stressed and anxious. Rhu, who we haven’t checked in on in a while, is extremely anxious and stressed because all of his items are being crunched out and destroyed while he’s trying to return to power. Someone is destroying his life’s work.
When we last left the party they had just defeated an evil mage in an anti-Fey dungeon. The mage had been experimenting on devils and golems, creating monstrosities with antimagic abilities. Gobbles managed to disable all of the room’s actions by teleporting into the tubes siphoning magic from Aeorian creatures and breaking them from the inside. With the servant of Rhu and his items now destroyed, the party need to head back into the dungeon to retrieve Alba, who had become overwhelmed by the dungeon, and the talking doorknob.
Lysithea picks a sludge-covered Gobbles up and places him on his feet.
Lysithea: Well done Gobbles!
Gobbles: Yup.
He Prestidigitations most of the goo off of himself, but not before taking a mug full to drink later. Upon investigation (investigation 15) Surina finds a slight breeze coming from one of the walls, indicating another way out. She decides to start bashing the wall in while the others retrieve Alba.
Doorknob: Hello again. Welcome back.
Lysithea: We’ve come to collect our friend and… you?
Doorknob: Oh? Okay. Collecting me sounds like an interesting proposition. This place is less magical now.
Lysithea: Yes. Yes it is.
Doorknob: So, let’s do some riddles? Do we have time?
Lysithea: Sure?
Lysithea begins to disconnect the doorknob from the door.
Doorknob: Careful there, Handsy.
Lysithea: Gobbles should be doing this, not me… Uh… Here’s a stupid riddle from elementary school. You’re in a room with no windows and no doors. The only thing in the room besides you is a mirror. How do you get out?
Doorknob: I am a door. Well, a doorknob. I would say I would get out by turning myself.
Lysithea: There’s no door for you to be connected to.
Doorknob: That’s not true.
Lysithea: It is in this riddle.
Doorknob: I don’t know.
Lysithea: You ready for this answer? You look in the mirror, say you saw yourself, take the saw and saw a hole in the wall and walk out.
Doorknob: That is… that…
Lysithea: Yeah… elementary school fun…
With that the doorknob comes loose. They had the doorknob off to Professor, who will install it on Truckasaurus as both a security system and to keep Gobbles and Professor company.
Lysithea: The Professor is full of riddles. Have fun with him.
They open the door and find Alba laying on the floor, her arms splayed out, and her legs up on the wall. She’s trying to breathe deeply because someone once told her this was a good way to relax. Lysithea tilts her head like a confused dog.
Lysithea: You okay?
Alba: Ne-never better.
Lysithea: Well, all the bad stuff is gone and we found an exit so we’re going to head that way.
Alba: I d-d-deeply ap-pologize for my absence.
Lysithea: It’s okay. You get used to it. Unfortunately.
Alba: The rest of my quests have involved… well… animal dung.
Lysithea: Ah… Huh… Right…
Alba: Lots of stables. Lots of stables. Wrongs that needed to be righted with poop.
Lysithea: Yeah, this is… I’m not sure if this is better or worse.
(Surina strength 16, 19) It’s takes a little time, but Surina is able to bash away the wall to a doorway. The door leads to a chamber filled with lots of gold and a couple important looking items. One of the items is a statue that looks like an octopus, but it’s not. It has 8 tentacles, but it looks like a rock, and it’s made out of gold. Gobbles intensly studies the statue, which looks like it could be mounted on a ship. After a few minutes of study Gobbles decides to cast Identify, learning that it is a Figurehead of Prowess that must be attached to a vehicle, allowing any non-water based vehicle to become water based. If it is attached to a water-based ship it can dive underwater. The other item of note is a set of armor that looks like it is made out of troll skin. The party lets out a simultaneous “Ewwwww” as they pack up the Troll Skin Armor.
Lysithea: That might be something worth selling. I think we should sell this and not wear troll corpses.
The rest of the party agrees. (Investigation Blobby 7, Alba adjusted 20, Lysithea 17) Alba also finds 2 vials of reddish liquid.
Alba: Gobbles, can you identify this, too?
Gobbles: I can either identify them or just drink them.
Alba: I, no, nononono.
Gobbles: I’ll identify them.
The vials are filled with troll blood. Another simultaneous “Ew” and “Why” from the party. Troll blood is highly prized for potion making.
Lysithea: I know some people that might be able to use those. Okay, let’s leave this silly place and collect our Thistle.
Surina throws the figurehead over her shoulder, the party takes 500 gold each, and they eagerly exit the dungeon.
Upon exit they find Blobby bouncing up and down by the doorway. They go to greet him but are immediately distracted by 7 Kobolds of all different colors running towards them – red, yellow, pink, black, blue, green, and a silverish white Kobolds. They had just slid down off of ropes dangling from an airship above them. On the front of the airship is a large Beholder head.
Red Kobold: HALT!
Lysithea: Wait, weren’t we stopped coming into this place? And now we’re being stopped coming out of this place? What is happening?
Red Kobold: We are here to collect our magic items.
Lysithea: Your magic items?
Red Kobold: We paid for some.
Lysithea: What did you pay for?
Red Kobold: M-magic items!
Lysithea: Do you have documentation?
Red Kobold: Yes, in fact.
Lysithea: Can I see?
He motions to the black Kobold, who ducks behind his shield and he brings paperwork forward. Lysithea goes over the paperwork, which is a receipt for golems and fire protection.
Lysithea: And you’re collecting these from these people in here?
Red Kobold: Yes.
Lysithea: Ah, I see. *sets paperwork on fire* They’re all dead.
Red Kobold: Well… we still want our items.
Lysithea: They’re all broken and gone.
Red Kobold: Well… if you have nothing, and you say everything is destroyed, then our business is done. *snaps*
The other Kobolds jump onto the ropes and start getting lifted up.
Lysithea: Who are you people?
Red Kobold: We are…
All Kobolds Together: THE KOWER RANGERS!
Lysithea: You mean the super heroes from the play?
Kobolds: NO!
(There was a play called The Kower Rangers – an acrobatic spectacular that would travel around the land, that featured Kobolds in costumes).
Red Kobold: Now if you’ll excuse me, we have things to do.
Lysithea: What kind of things?
Red Kobold: Evil, nafarious things.
Lysithea: That’s very nondescript.
The Red Kower Ranger does a series of back flips before leaping onto the last rope.
Red Kobold: May you never have to meet us again.
The Kower Rangers all get pulled up onto the ominous looking airship. Lysithea, very confused by the situation, has a moment of recognition upon looking at the airship. However, her frustration is more powerful than her curiosity and she hurls a Firebolt at the ship (attack 26). The purple fire slashes through one of the ropes, causing the blue Kower Ranger to begin to fall; however, he does the most graceful, acrobatic leap and grabs onto another rope.
Gobbles: Woooooah! Surina and Alba, we need to convert these guys to Bahamut.
The Firebolt continues its trajectory, but crashes on a forcefield protecting the ship. Lysithea squints, then shoots more Firebolts at the ropes, causing more Kower Rangers to fall and leap to other ropes. Gobbles tries his hardest to not be impressed, but does a bad job of hiding his excitement. Before being reduced to one rope, the figurehead Beholder at the front of the ship turns and fires a beam down at Lysithea (Strength saving throw 14), who begins to lift up into the air. The ship flies off and as it leaves range Lysithea drops to the ground, taking 1 point of damage. The ship travels northward, towards the Ocan’queb Volcano. As the ship flies away they can see the name on the ship – Xordon. It also appears as if the ship was flying lower than it should have, as if something was weighing it down.
Alba: You seem to have created a – created a rivalry, perhaps.
Lysithea: They seem to have stolen technology. We’re gonna have to kill them.
Alba: Is that r-really necessary? They seem kinda p-p-pathetic, t-to be honest.
Gobbles: Yeah, they were really cool.
Lysithea: That ship can’t be a thing. That technology looked really familiar, and where they are going… I don’t like any of it. Plus we’ve got this blinking light on map in the southern tundra. Which means we have to go to the tundra, which means we need protection from the tundra. Luckily I happen to know the people that make the things we need to be protected from the tundra. SO… who wants to meet my family?
Surina: I DO! Mememememe!
Alba: Interesting prospect.
Blobby: *blobs*
Lysithea: To go south we must go north!
The party reunites with Truckasaurus and installs the Rocktopus figurehead onto it. They find Thistle and the doorknob having a deep conversation about riddles. They decide to avoid the mountains and head towards Naima and take the pass into the volcano region. Blobby immediately hops in the driver’s seat, Gobbles takes the engine, and Professor handles the systems. Gobbles (intelligence + slight of hand 16) is excited about handling the loud bits. Blobby (dexterity + perception Nat1) starts driving, but ends up driving in circles, making donuts in the ground.
Lysithea: *trying to hang on* Blobby, you need to go THIS WAY! *points*
Professor: STOP IT! STOP IT!
(Blobby dexterity + perception 13) With some shouts from the party, Blobby is able to focus and begins driving in the correction direction towards Naima.
After a few hours of travel their monstrosity of a truck approaches the borders of the artistic city. They begin to turn towards the pass when they see someone running towards them waving frantically. They pull over cautiously.
Man: What! What is this?! What is this glorious contraption?!
Lysithea: This is the official vehicle of Surina and the Crystal Gems.
Man: You must let me sketch this!
Lysithea: What’s the catch?
Man: *confused*
Lysithea: I mean, that’s fine. We’ll just go into town for a little bit. Have fun…
The man immediately pulls out books and pencils, plops down on the ground, and begins sketching Truckasaurus. The party decides to take a little time in the city, very confused, but glad for the break from Blobby’s driving.
Lysithea: Alba, tell me, have you ever been to Gomax-ee’s?
Alba: Gomax-ee’s?
Lysithea: Let’s go sell this armor. Who’s coming?
Gobbles: Gokay.
Surina: I am!
Blobby: Me too!
Walking through the art town, music seems to be playing from every corner. They approach the northern end of town where Alba takes in the sight that is Gomax-ee’s for the first time. She begins to giggle wildly as she sees the sign depicting the fat Otterace’s smiling face. Her giggles turn to gasps as they enter the building and she beholds the floors and floors of magical items and the giant, spiraling waterslide connecting each floor. A halfling woman with an otter hat approaches the party.
Worker: Welcome to Gomax-ee’s. How may I help you?
Lysithea: We have some armor we’d like to sell.
Worker: Excellent. Follow me. Right this way.
She leads the party to a counter, where she walks to the other side and steps up on 2 boxes. She pulls out a giant book and plops it on the counter.
Worker: Okay, let’s see the armor.
Lysithea pulls out the Troll Skin Armor and lays it on the counter.
Worker: Well, that’s disgusting.
Lysithea: Indeed.
The halfling worker begins to flip through pages of the book.
Worker: Are you returning customers?
Gobbles: Yes! I may have spent some money here.
Lysithea: Gobbles here is one of your best customers.
Worker: Excellent, excellent. Name?
Lysithea: Lysithea, Gobbles the Goblin, and Surina.
Surina: And Blobby and Alba!
Worker: *nods* For that I can offer you 10,000 gold.
Lysithea: Done.
Surina: 10,000 gold?! Are you kidding me?! *excited dance*
Blobby: Ding dong, ding dong!
Worker: Now, if you want it in Gomax-ee Bucks, I could offer you a bit more.
Lysithea: No thank you.
Gobbles: I’ll take mine in Gomax-ee Bucks.
Each member of the party takes 2,000 gold, and Gobbles takes 2,500 Gomax-ee Bucks.
Workers: That can only be spent here, or at any of our affiliate stores. Is there anything else I could help you find?
Gobbles: Yes. *pulls out wish list*
Lysithea: Extra attunement slots.
Alba: I don’t know what this store has…
Lysithea: They have everything, including a food court.
Worker: We have a special today. We have a magic scroll that is sealed and only taken out for a select few to see it if they are interested in purchasing it. It is called a Scroll of Wish.
Lysithea: Uh huh? And does this scroll grant Wish?
Worker: It does.
Lysithea: And what would that cost?
Worker: 500,000 gold.
Gobbles begins to laugh wildly.
Worker: We only bring it out once in a while. Mr. Gomax-ee is not here and we are trying to see if we can sell it an surprise him *whispers* and make a commission.
Lysithea: As soon as I make a fortune I’ll be back.
The party shops around for a bit, with Gobbles purchasing a Breathing Bubble and an Amulet of the Devout +1. He makes an order for his amulet to be shaped “like the symbol of Bahamut with cool flames coming out, and he’ll probably have sunglasses”, taking a basic amulet in the meantime. Gobbles pays using all of the Gomax-ee bucks he just got. He begins to dig in his bag, hoping to find something else to trade in so that he does not once again spend all of his money at Gomax-ee’s.
Gobbles: Do you do deal in… I have an extra one of these. I have this extra bag of wasps. Do you deal in wasps?
Worker: *horrified and confused*
Lysithea: Gobbles, I can use those.
Gobbles: I also have this extra set of ears from a cat cafe in Pupbaat.
Worker: Oh, that is a delightful place. I like Sir Purrington.
Gobbles continues to dig and finds some +1 Chainmail, which he graciously gives to Alba.
Surina: I want to up my precious AC! Up my AC! Up my AC!
By the end, Surina ends up purchasing a better shield, and Lysithea buys a Blood Well Vial +1. With their shopping episode done, the party returns to their vehicle to see if the artist is finished sketching. They find him adding in finer details.
Lysithea: *voice getting higher and higher as she speaks* Personally, I would not like to stay here much longer because I don’t want Madame Diva finding us and asking us what happened in the jungle, knowing that she knew we were going there and I think we fought her mother in that chaos temple. So, can we leave?
Alba: W-w-what?
Lysithea: Wait till we’re out of town and I’ll tell you all the things.
Alba: Okay…
As the party drives away from Naima Lysithea tells Alba the story of their encounter with the town diva who they believe to be a Lich, their adventure in the Shadowfell temple in the jungle, and their battle with the sorceress that looked an awful lot like the diva and the triangle demon (see Catch Up Post).
Driving through the mountain pass the land begins to change from grassy terrain to scorched and ashen earth. Pools that should have been filled with water are filled with murky soot.
Lysithea: You smell that soot and sulfer in the air? Smells so good. Smells like home.
The temperature quickly rises as they progress. The wheels of Truckasaurus begin to tear up as it drives over rocks and jagged ground, and the vehicle begins to overheat. Lysithea perpetually casts Ray of Frost on the engine to cool it, which works for a while, but eventually the overworked engine powers down. The party exits Truckasaurus and plans to continue on foot while Professor stays behind to fix it. (Constitution saving throws Gobbles Nat20, Lysithea 26, Alba adjusted 20, Blobby Nat20, Surina 21) They are holding up in the heat for now, but Gobbles still summons his Mage Hand to constantly fan him. The are about to head off when they hear a loud “AHEM”.
Lysithea: Hello?
They turn to see two large stone giants, a woman with hair that looks like fire, and a Tiefling with dark red skin. Upon closer inspection they see the stone giants are younger, the teenage hoodlums of the giant world, and a Fire Genasi standing with the red Tiefling man.
Tiefling: Isn’t this fascinating.
Lysithea: What?
Tiefling: You coming down this road in this big contraption.
Lysithea: Yeah, it’s a vehicle.
Tiefling: Yes, it is very fascinating.
Lysithea: Really? It looks like a cachophany of things.
Tiefling: So do most inventions. Since you all are in this cacophany coming through this passage you must be coming from Naima. Which means you must have money.
Lysithea: Ah, no, just coming through to visit my parents.
Tiefling: Oh, then you must know that there’s a toll.
Lysithea: No there’s not.
Tiefling: No, there definitely is.
Lysithea: I haven’t been gone that long. (History 16)
There is no toll, but some people from the villages will try to extort travelers for money.
Lysithea: You’re just doing this because you think we are visitors, but I’m just going home.
Tiefling: Well… you can pass, fine. You don’t have to pay a toll. But the others…
Lysithea: No, they’re with me. Wait a second… Do I know you?
Tiefling: If you did you would know there was a toll!
Lysithea: Nononononono, I think I know you. Did we go to school together?
Tiefling: *whispers to giants* No, no, I didn’t know, no. *To party* Who has time for school?
Lysithea: What color am I?
Genasi to Tiefling: Is this a trick? I don’t… We know she’s purple. We need the money.
Lysithea: Hello?
Tiefling: Sort of purple…
Lysithea: How many purple Tieflings do you know? I know you!
Doorknob: Oh, a riddle? How many purple Tieflings do I know…
Blobby: The riddle wasn’t for you!
The giants are beginning to get angry.
Tiefling: Listen, listen, let’s just pretend –
Lysithea: I lack imagination.
Tiefling: Oh I do know you!
Lysithea clearly remembers her former classmate pulling shenanigans like this, pushing his luck, getting involved with the wrong people and things. He’s not necessarily a bad guy, but he’s always up to something.
Lysithea: AXIE!
Tiefling: That’s not, no!
Lysithea: AXIE!
Axel: Yes?
Lysithea: You haven’t grown up at all, have you?
Axel: Yes I have!
Lysithea: Have you?
Axel: Yes! I’ve become more competent, in fact.
Lysithea: So why are you trying to pull this?
Axel: Because?
Lysithea: *singing tauntily* I’m gonna tell your parents! I’m gonna tell your parents!
Axel: Okay, let’s kill them now.
Lysithea to Party: Beat the snot out of him. Don’t kill him. In school he hated me because he would tease me and taunt me, trying to get a reaction out of me, but I just didn’t care. He’s not evil, he’s just an idiot.
Initiative Blobby 10, Lysithea 7, Gobbles 7, Alba 18, Surina 14
Begin Schoolmate Fight
Genasi: So, are we doing this?
Axel: Yeah! She’s going to tell my parents!
The Genasi begins to conjure a fire elemental, but her show-offy finesse is ignored as Alba begins to cast a spell.
Alba: B-Bahamut is good, Bahamut is right, Let him bless us for this f-fight!
Gobbles: Yay!
Alba casts Bless at 3rd level, granting the boon to the entire party. Annoyed by the interruption, the Fire Genasi flips her hair so that it sparks, then finishes summoning her elemental. Surina charges forward, hurling a javelin straight at freshly summoned elemental (attack 19). The javelin flies true, piercing the elemental for 9 damage. She hurls another javelin at the elemental (attack 16) for an additional 7 damage.
Lysithea: Oh Axie! *singing* My gang’s better than your gang! See, I got friends now!
With a flare of his cape Axel disappears…
Blobby: Hey, that’s cheating!
Blobby bloops forward and spits flaming balls of garbage at the elemental (attack 25, 23, 28), hitting it for a total 22 damage. One of the stone giants picks up a boulder and hurls it at Surina (strength saving throw adjusted 20), striking her for 24 damage; however, Surina stands strong and doesn’t get knocked over. The fire elemental slithers up to Surina and reaches out with its fiery hands to grab Surina, but Surina is too quick to grab. The other stone giant hurls a rock at Surina, but this time Surina knocks it away with her shield. Lysithea concentrates and transmutes her Fireball…
Lysithea: Oh I don’t like cold, oh I don’t like cold… COLDBALL!
She is able to hit the fire elemental and one of the stone giants for 35 cold damage.
Giant: Hey now! That wasn’t fire!
The giant looks angrily over at where Axel would be.
Lysithea: Why would I use fire? In a fire land? Of fire people? This is why school is good.
Gobbles begins to run forward..
Gobbles: How are you gonna handle THIS?
… and starts to transform. Flowers begin to bloom out of him and with a mighty leap (mighty for a Goblin) he bursts! Flower petals fly everywhere, revealing a Deinonychus dinosaur with rainbow-confetti scales. Thistle lets out a “YEE-HAW” as he pulls up a cowboy hat and reigns to ride dino-Gobbles.
Alba: That’s…
Lysithea: Wait, WHAT? Uh, er… Go get ‘em Gobbles!
Dino-Gobbles unleashed a multi-attack on one of the stone giants (attack 16, 21) for a total 14 damage, knocking the giant prone. Gobbles attempts to say a clever one liner, but all the party can hear is dino-screeches.
Thistle: He says “Yippee ki-yay!” *whispers* I can’t speak dinosaur, I’m a dragon.
A slightly confused Alba centers herself and attempts to dispel the Genasi’s hold on the fire elemental; unfortunately, her magic fizzles and the elemental remains. The Genasi’s hair flares as she lets out a cackle and fires her longbow at Surina. The arrow pierces Surina’s shoulder for 7 piercing and 8 fire damage. Surina takes a second to debate what weapon to use, knowing that fire damage will not help. With some quick guidance, she remembers that swords can do damage even if the fire won’t affect the target and swings her sword at the elemental (attack 18) for 7 piercing and 6 radiant damage. Surina looks at her sword in awe, realizes that she can now deal radiant damage without smiting! She attacks the elemental again (attack 25) for an additional 8 slashing and 6 radiant damage. The fire elemental poofs out of existence!
Surina: GO AWAY! HURRAY!
Lysithea: That’s not what you usually say…
Surina: I DON’T WANT TO ACTIVATE MY SWORD!
Lysithea: Good point…
Lysithea suddenly feels stabbing pain as Axel stabs her with his sword. The blow deals 26 piercing damage, but Axel loses his invisibility. He then stabs at her with a dagger, but Lysithea can see him now and dodges. Lysithea gives Axel a disapproving “tsk tsk”.
Lysithea: Your parents are going to be so upset.
Axel: You could have just paid me.
Lysithea: When have I ever done anything you wanted?
Blobby uses his Ultra Punch on the prone stone giant (attack 26) for 15 damage, and again (attack 29) for 12 damage, and again (attack 27) for 9 damage. The stone giant stands up, grabs a club, and swings down at the dinosaur that knocked him prone. Dino-Gobbles takes 19 damage from the blow, but still remains in his dino-form. The giant hits him again for 21 damage, popping the Goblin back into Gobbles-mode, accompanied by a deflated party blower sound effect. The other stone giant goes to help his friend and smacks Blobby for 24 damage.
Lysithea: Hey Axie, you wanna meet one of my pets?
Lysithea summons her Hound of Ill Omen and sics it on Axel. It goes to bite his ankle (attack 15), but the terrified Axel dances out of the way. Lysithea then Ray of Frost’s Axel in the face (attack Nat20) for 14 cold damage. Gobbles lets out a “BORK BORK” as he wildshapes into a direwolf; however, he looks more like a dire-beagle, and Thistle sits like Woodstock atop his head. He bites at one of the stone giants (attack Nat20), bringing it down for the fight. Satisfied with himself, Snoopy-Gobbles rushes up to stick face right in the Genasi’s face and lets out a mighty “BORK”.
Alba casts Blindness on Axel, robbing him of many of his abilities and escape route. Lysithea leans in to whisper in Axel’s ear.
Lysithea: I have friends now and they’re better than your friends.
Flames begin to dance around the fire Genasi as she waves her hands in the air. She goes to slam the ground to cast a spell, but Lysithea, using Distant Spell, Counterspells at 4th level, dispelling the Wall of Fire.
Lysithea: Nonononono. No.
Genasi: Well, *looks at doggy-Gobbles* I can transform, too.
She transforms into a fire elemental, just like the one she previously summoned. Surina also decides to bring the fire and ignites her sword.
Surina: Goodbye forever!
She charges at the still standing stone giant (attack 19), slashing it across its leg for 11 slashing, 11 fire, and 8 radiant damage. She spins around for another attack (attack 23), hitting it across the shin for an additional 7 slashing, 9 fire, and 7 radiant damage. The blinded Axel keeps trying to attack Lysithea and manages to slice her arm for 15 slashing and 7 fire damage. He slashes at her again, but she leaps out of the way. He rubs his eyes and shakes his head in an attempt to gain his sight back, but he remains blinded. Blobby uses Suck Up on the remaining giant, swallowing him and spitting him back out repeatedly (attack 29, 23, crit19) for a total 44 damage. The final time the giant lands on his back and is knocked out for the fight. The Hound takes a bite out of Axel (attack 23) for 9 damage. Lysithea then unleashes Tasha’s Mind Whip at Axel, for 8 psychic damage and leaving him with no reaction and only movement, an action, or bonus action. Doggy-Gobbles takes a bite out of the Fire Genasi turned elemental (attack 21) for 14 piercing damage. He tries to pull her leg out from under her, but realizes there is fire and nopes out. Alba casts Cure Wounds on Lysithea at second level, healing her for 16 hit points.
Lysithea: Thank you!
Alba: You’re welcome!
The fire elemental moves through Beagle-Gobbles…
Gobbles: Ruh-roh!
… causing him to catch fire. She tries to grab Gobbles and he dodges her left arm, but she grabs him with her right and deals 9 fire damage to him. Surina Misty Steps behind Fire Genasi Elemental to flank her with Doggo-Gobbles…
Surina: Goodbye forever.
… but she turns off her Flametongue knowing fire will do no damage. She slashes her Flametongue at the elemental (attack 24) for 8 slashing and 7 radiant damage. She swings again (attack 15) dealing an additional 9 slashing and 7 radiant damage. Axel, still blinded, continues to swing at Lysithea, but he constantly misses. Frustrated, he shakes his head really hard, which cures him of his blindness. He looks around to see what’s going on.
Lysithea: Your giants are down.
Axel: Yeah, I see that. I see that… now… Is that elemental the one she summoned?
Lysithea: No that’s her. The one she summoned is gone.
Axel: Ah… oh…
Blobby blobs over to the fire elemental and uses his Ultra Punch (attack 30, 24, 29), hitting for 32 total damage. The Hound bites at Axel’s ankle again (attack 18) but misses.
Lysithea: You gonna back off?
Axel: I… I need to save face…
Alba begins to giggle wildly, grapsing the hilariousness of the situation. Lysithea ponders for a second and, seeing as how Axel wants to save face, she casts Bigby’s Hand and slaps him in the face (attack 22). The necrotic, vampiric hand hits him right across the cheek for 26 force damage.
Lysithea: How’s your face now?
Doggo-Gobbles takes 3 fire damage from being on fire. Instead of choosing to put the fire out Gobbles chooses to bite the Fire Genasi elemental (attack 18) for 8 piercing damage. The elemental would fall prone, but she is immune. Alba shakes her head and casts Toll the Dead. 2 spiraling fireworks shoot out toward Axel and pop right in his ears, dealing 19 damage. Lysithea puts her hand behind her back to get a high five from Alba (dexterity save 10), but Alba instead gets hit by Axel’s Hellish Rebuke for 19 fire damage.
Axel: At least I can do that to her!
Alba: *singing* I’m still fine!
Lysithea: Come on Axel, hit me!
The Fire Genasi elemental walks over Beagle-Gobbles again, dealing him 7 more fire damage. Surina and Blobby both swing at her as she does. Surina (attack 24) hits her for 5 slashing and 3 radiant damage and Blobby (attack 16) hits her for 12 bludgeoning damage. The double blow causes her to revert back from an elemental to her Fire Genasi form. She looks around, curses under breath, and decides to run for it. A growling Snoopy-Gobbles pounces at her as she flees (attack 18), holding her down so that she can’t leave.
Genasi: Let! Me! Leave!
Gobbles: Grrrrrrrr….
She slashes at Gobbles in an attempt to free herself, dealing him 6 slashing and 16 fire damage. Gobbles-mode reactivates, breaking the grapple, but he Hellish Rebukes her; unfortunately, she only takes 2 total fire damage.
Gobbles: Yeah, take that!
Genasi: Listen, let me go.
Gobbles: Or… not.
Lysithea: You need to be knocked down all the pegs. Not most of the pegs, all the pegs.
Alba: Surina do it! Do it! Do it!
Surina walks up to the Fire Genasi and stabs at her (attack 16), but misses. She switches to her Dragonsword and stabs again (attack 19), this time striking the Genasi for 10 slashing, 5 fire, and 1 radiant damage. Axel takes a look around…
Lysithea: Hit me!
… and decides to run. The Hound bites him as he flees (attack 22), dealing 6 piercing damage. Lysithea whacks him on the back of the head with her staff as he runs (attack 21) for 5 more damage. Axel runs and dashes away, towards the mountains. Blobby continues to wail on the Fire Genasi (attack 28, 19, 21), hitting her three times for a total 43 bludgeoning damage.
Genasi: Listen! Listen. I’ll give you my sword. And then… you got me.
Lysithea: I don’t care about your sword. Stop pulling this scheme on people!
Genasi: Sure. Sure.
Alba: Sounds real convincing there…
Genasi: I’ll give you my sword.
The Hound begins to persue Axel, compelled to chase after its designated target. Lysithea sends Bigby’s Hand after Axel (attack 26) and gives him a giant wedgie, dealing 21 force damage. He lets out a yelp, but keeps running. Gobbles joins in the chase after Axel, casting Hunter’s Mark to help track him and using his action to dash. Lysithea uses Thaumaturgy to make her voice boom…
Lysithea: I’M GONNA TELL YOUR PARENTS! *turns to Genasi* And your parents, too!
Genasi: Can I keep my sword then?
Lysithea: No!
Genasi: Then you can’t tell my parents.
Lysithea: It doesn’t work that way.
Genasi: Listen, I’m gone. Have a good day.
Lysithea: Drop your sword.
The Genasi begins to cast a spell, but Lysithea counterspells at 4th level. The Genasi pouts, tosses her sword to the ground, and runs. Surina picks up her Sword of Desert Winds, a beautiful scimitar that allows one to withstand extreme temperatures. Lysithea goes to the giants laying on the ground and whispers to them.
Lysithea: It’s over.
Giant: Oh, good.
Lysithea: Axie is not a good influence. You need to find better friends, okay?
Giant: We’re just going to sleep here.
Lysithea: That’s fine. That’s totally fine. You need to find better friends.
Giant: I think we’re gonna start stonecarving like our fathers.
Lysithea: That’s a good idea.
Giant: But for now we’re just going to sleep.
Lysithea: Have a good nap.
Gobbles and The Hound continue to chase after Axel until they catch up to him. Gobbles, in a weird sense of vengeance, beats Axel until he is unconcious, ties him up, and drags him back to a slightly horrified Lysithea.
Lysithea: He’s alive, right?
Gobbles: He’s fine.
Lysithea sits on Axel while Gobbles goes through his things. He finds 50 gold and a Gambler’s Blade on Axel’s person, but it is cursed and has a hold on Axel. Consequences will be found out next session.

Spotlight On Another Player:
- Miranda: Victor for attempting to play, even though he lost focus.
- Kevin: Justice for the Kower Rangers.
- Hannah: Lysithea for taking no crap from, maybe not her childhood friend, but someone she knew growing up.
- Cordelia: Victor for playing.
- Victor: Gobbles for making the giants fall down.
- Justice: Cordelia for choosing not to use certain things knowing they wouldn’t be effective.
Challenge or Something Learned:
- Miranda: The kids were a little unfocused today. It’s been so long since we’ve played.
- Kevin: Wildshape stuff. I have much lower AC and much less options.
- Hannah: I’m still challenged with trying to get all the cantrips and spells and bonuses figured out.
- Cordelia: I was fidgety.
- Victor: Sitting during roleplay.
- Justice: Focus. My attention was elsewhere.
Hope or Prediction for Next Session:
- Miranda: I’m excited to finally have a backstory.
- Kevin: I’m looking forward to the resolution of this and going to Lysithea’s home town area, and also Cordelia’s coming up dungeon and the return of the Kower Rangers.
- Hannah: I hope that more people can play with us and that the kids continue to be involved.
- Cordelia: Tundra!!
- Victor: I think something will get destroyed.
- Justice: That I get the Kower Rangers finished painting and that you enjoy that fight.
Analysis: Cordelia was really fidgety this session, but not in a way that impeded her play. She kept dropping her dice, she was very wiggly in her seat, but she was still (mostly) paying attention. What impressed a lot of us was her decision with her sword, knowing that fire damage wouldn’t do anything. She actually roleplayed a bit, and reacted to a lot of what was going on in game, not with words but with sound effects. We were also very proud of Victor, who participated a lot more than he usually does. We give him creative freedom with his attacks and use Fighter stats for whatever he comes up with. We never know what he’s going to come up with!
