Check In Question: What is something you would do when you’re not working/at school or fighting monsters/exploring dungeons?
- Kevin: Dungeons and Dragons stuff and video games. Gobbles would currently be trying to talk to squirrels and finding a Hydra-Meat food establishment everywhere he goes.
- Miranda: Besides the Dungeons and Dragons stuff, when I have time video games, drawing, sleeping, watching things with the family. Lysithea would read and read and read.
- Hannah: I have been playing so much Breath of the Wild right now. Alba likes to studies, and here favorites were the celestial, the infernal, and abyssal. Now she wants to learn about the Fey.
- Cordelia: Play Animal Crossing, draw, and listen to music. Surina likes to play Tail Tag.
- Liz: Play video games! Octavia would probably meditate in the woods.
- Justice: Video games. I would love to read, but right now it’s not working. Ahsec likes to settle down with a good cup of tea and plan world domination.
When we last left the party, they had followed the map to the Moford Mountains, where at least one of Rhu’s items is being used by a mage. At the mountain entrance they encountered some Kobolds and a Yochlol standing guard, which they quickly dispatched. The door to the entrance, as well as the walls inside the mountain, are made of iron – this base of operations wants to keep Fey and magic out. Inside, the party managed to deactivate a Golem, and fought some horrid abjuration creatures. In the fight, Surina went down for the first time. The party is bruised and battered, and in need of rest.
Realizing that leaving would reset the traps, the party decides to press forward. They turn the next corner to find a long hallway. Halfway down the hallway is a red, translucent wall, which has other walls behind it; however, the red wall obscures the colors of the following walls. (Arcana Lysithea 21, Alba 13, Gobbles 19) The walls are radiating heat.
Lysithea: Don’t touch it.
Lysithea tries to cast Ray of Frost on the wall, but the ice melts as it hits the fire of the wall. She casts Firebolt on the wall next…
Gobbles: Fight fire with fire!
Lysithea: I’m experimenting!
… but the blast meshes with the fire. Surina prepares to use her breath weapon, but Alba stops her just before, having found something on the corner wall (investigation Nat20). She points out a small panel on the wall with 3 lens coverings that can open or be turned.
Alba: It’s a prism sort of thing!
Gobbles: Ermahgerd.
One lens is outlined in red, one in blue, and the third in yellow. Alba opens the red lens covering and a thin red beam shoots out and removes the red wall, revealing a sickly green colored wall.
Gobbles: Delicious.
The party looks at Gobbles, anticipating that he will lick the poison-colored wall. Gobbles approaches the wall and stares back and forth between the wall and his poison-covered sword. After 20 seconds the red beam disappears and the red wall comes back up. The party opens the red lens again, then Gobbles moves the blue lens to cover the yellow lens to make green, causing the second wall to disappear. Gobbles, growing impatient, starts to move the lenses as fast as he can to create every color combination.
Lysithea: Gobbles, no! Surina, pick him up.
As soon as Gobbles picks a wrong color combination both walls reform. Surina walks over, picks Gobbles up, and sets him down gently away from the lenses. Calmly, the party opens the red lens again, and Gobbles scurries past it.
Gobbles: Put the red wall back up, please! I want to see if you can hear me through them.
The party closes the red wall so that Gobbles stands in-between the red wall and the poison-colored wall. He makes a series of noises, and the party can still hear him. They lift the red wall, then the green wall, and now they see another energy wall (arcana Alba 15, Surina 18). Surina approaches the wall and starts to get a headache from the psychic energy.
Gobbles: What the heck color would psychic be?
Lysithea: We need red and blue.
The red and blue combo opens the wall, revealing yet another wall. Alba begins to feel very uncomfortable as the wall of necrotic energy is revealed. The party tries using none of the colors, and the necrotic wall disappears. One last wall remains, which radiates a heavenly glow. The party puts all the lenses on top of each other and the wall disappears. On the other side of the long hallway is a door. The party runs down the hallway before the walls can reform, and rush through the door, which was luckily not locked.
The party begins to take a deep breath, but instead choke on air as they are faced with two core spawn crawlers, spider-like abjurations that hiss and spit, and a grotesque figure covered in chains. (Religion Alba 15, Gobbles 6) It is a chained devil, an evil, sadistic creature that likes causing pain and tormenting mortal souls.
Devil: You were not supposed to get through there!
Lysithea: And yet we did.
Begin Devil Fight
Octavia aims her Ensarning bow at the devil, casts Hunter’s Mark on him, and fires (attack 26). The devil takes 10 piercing damage, and becomes restrained as vines explode from the arrow and latch on to him. Octavia fires again (attack Nat1), but the arrow bounces off one of the chains and begins to ping back and forth on the walls until it lands on the ground. Gobbles taps his Slime Blade against his shield of Bahamut, casting Protection from Good and Evil on himself, then runs in screaming.
Gobbles: EAT ME!
He then grants Lysithea a Bardic Inspiration. Instead of trying to break free, the chained devil summons more chains from the walls which then hover around Gobbles. One of the core spawn runs up and bites at Gobbles, but Gobble hides behind the shield. The spawn chomps down on Gobbles’s shield instead, breaking some of its teeth. It tries to frantically claw at Gobbles, but cannot reach him behind his shield. Surina wants to rush up to the devil, but the hovering chains have now formed a blockade that she cannot get past. She slashes at the chains with her Dragonsword (attack 26) for 8 slashing and 17 fire damage, completely shattering the chains. She tries to slash at the next chain (attack 19) but she doesn’t put enough force into her swing and her sword bounces off the metal.
Alba: S-Surina, how are you feeling?
Surina: Uh… I’m good for now.
Alba: Gobbles, how about you?
Gobbles: Yeah, I have some of my stuff leaking out.
Alba runs through the remaining chains to get to Gobbles and casts Cure Wounds on Gobbles at level 4. She puts her tiny owl hands on Gobbles and heals him for 25. In the process, Alba also heals for 6, bringing her back to full health.
Gobbles: Thank you!
Lysithea, who is part devil, hopes that this devil is also resistant to fire, so she transmutes Scorching Ray to cold damage. She fires 3 blasts (attack 24, 18, 25) and all three hit. The devil should have taken 26 damage, but it seems like it does less damage than it should. This devil is resistant to cold damage. The second core spawn starts to crawl up the wall and head towards Surina. Gobbles tries to take a swing at it, but he cannot jump high enough to reach. The spawn bites at Surina, but cannot pierce her armor. It takes a claw swipe at Surina and scratches her across her face for 6 damage (Wisdom saving throw Nat20). It swipes at Surina again, but breaks some of its claws off on her shield. Surina jumps out of the way and dodges the spawn’s tail attack.
Octavia switches to her longbow and fires at the core spawn crawling on the wall (attack 27, 15). Both arrows pierce it for 16 total damage. The spawn is still standing, but barely. Gobbles feels like something is reaching into his brain, and in front of him he sees a Hydra-Meat burger that’s falling apart, with a ghostly figure putting the wrong sauce on it.
Gobbles: Aw, they ruined it!
(Gobbles wisdom saving throw 24) Gobbles shakes his head and, although he is now hangry, he is not frightened. Gobbles pops off Word of Radiance, dealing 4 radiant damage to the chain and spawn next to him. The devil grabs the vines that restrain him and rips them off, freeing himself from their hold. The first core spawn tries with all of its might to bite, claw, and pierce Gobbles, but it cannot land a single hit on the tiny Goblin. Surina stabs the spawn on the wall next to her (attack 17). Her sword goes through the spawn’s head for 10 piercing damage, and the 9 fire damage seals its fate. Surina removes her sword from the spawn’s corpse and slashes at the remaining chain (attack 11), but she still cannot cut through it. Alba looks at the threatening chains and deduces that they are being controlled through an Animate Object spell. She casts Dispel Magic on the chains (roll 17), and the chains fall to the ground lifeless. The devil becomes frustrated that his chains were dispelled before he had a chance to use them against the party. Lysithea wants to experiment with the devil’s resistances and casts Scorching Ray at third level, this time transmuting the spell to lightning damage (attack 17, 22, 14, 14). Two of the rays hit the devil for a total 14 damage. Lysithea then summons her Hound of Ill omen behind the devil. For the first time Alba takes in the sight of the demonic hound appearing from thin air and marking its prey. The hound lunges at the devil (attack adjusted 20) and bites into its arm for 5 piercing damage.
Octavia puts her focus back on the devil and fires (attack Nat20). The arrow pierces into the devil’s chest for 22 damage. She fires again (attack 26), and the arrow lands in the devil’s shoulder for 8 more damage. Gobbles decides to ignore the crawling core spawn and charges towards the devil. The spawn tries to claw at Gobbles as he runs, but still cannot land a hit on him. Gobbles swings wildly at the devil as he runs, but completely misses. The remaining core spawn lashes out against Alba, biting her for 5 damage (wisdom saving throw 14). Alba manages to fight off the fear the spawn was trying to inflict on her, then quickly flutters around and dodges the rest of the spawn’s claw and tail attacks against her. Seeing her Owlin friend being attacked, Surina rushes in and stabs towards the core spawn (attack 11), but she just barely misses. Frustrated, she spins around and slashes again (attack 25). She expertly carves the spawn in twain, for 10 slashing and 19 fire damage. Alba looks around frantically, trying to figure out what to do. She has years of book learning, but no practical experience. She decides to cast Guiding Bolt at 4th level at the chained devil (attack 26). The silver bolt, led by a little dragon head, explodes in fireworks as it collides into the devil for 19 radiant damage, sending him back to the lower planes.
End Devil Fight
With the devil and spawns now defeated the party can now take a look around the room they are in. At first glance, it looks like a dead end. (Octavia perception 24) While searching the room Octavia spots a button, floating about 50ft in the air above her head.
Octavia: A button.
Lysithea: A button?
Octavia points up to the button. Without hesitation, Lysithea conjures her vampiric Bigby’s Hand and has it push the button. (Note: Justice/DM has graciously allowed me to use Bigby’s Hand without expending a spell slot for flavor like this.) With a “click”, one of the wall panels opens.
Lysithea: We need a nap…
Gobbles attempts to sneak a peek around the corner (stealth Nat1). He tiptoes quietly up to the opening, sticks his head out, then, with a loud THUD faceplants into the next hallway. He looks up from the ground and sees two doors – one to the left with various intricate carvings, and one to the right with a face where the knob should be. The face finishes a big yawn, then looks down at Gobbles.
Door: Hello.
Gobbles: Hi, I’m Gobbles the Goblin. Nice to meet you.
Door: Nice to meet you.
Octavia: Gobbles?
Lysithea: Gobbles? Who ya talking to?
Gobbles: A new friend, I think.
Octavia and Lysithea step into the hallway behind Gobbles.
Door: Hi.
Gobbles: What brings you here?
Door: I was built here. I think I was built here. I quite remember how I got here…
Gobbles: Ah. Have you heard of the glory of Bahamut?
Door: *thinks for a moment* Is that a riddle?
Gobbles: I don’t think so?
Door: Oh. Then no. You know, I like riddles.
Gobbles: I do, too. Do you want to come on an adventure with us?
Lysithea: Gobbles, it’s a door. Hi.
Gobles: I’m a Goblin.
At this point Alba sticks her head into the hallway, just enough to see what’s going on.
Door: I like riddles. Usually I’m supposed to tell riddles and open for those that get it right. But I’m bored with that. How about you tell me a riddle and see if I get it right, and then I’ll open.
Gobbles thinks really hard for a minute, trying to think of any riddle he’s heard, then looks up at the others.
Lysithea: Surina, do you want to ask a riddle?
Surina shakes her head no.
Lysithea: Hm.. I wonder… Okay, why is a raven like a writing desk?
Door: (riddle Nat1) I… Why is a raven like a writing desk? I don’t know. Why is a raven like a writing desk? Oh, I get it. Your brain wouldn’t understand the real answer. But I got that one.
Lysithea: Right…
Door: Ask me another. Ask me one that I can actually give you an answer to.
Lysithea: What has roots as nobody sees, is taller than trees, up, up it goes, and yet never grows?
Surina: I know!
Lysithea: I know you know, but the door has to answer.
Door: Well, I could answer this one, but, uh… *looks around* Anyone else want to volunteer an answer to that one?
Alba: No…
Surina: A mountain!
Door: Ding! Ding! Ding! That’s correct! Ask another one.
Surina whispers to Lysithea which riddle she wants to ask next.
Lysithea: Okay. Alive without breath, as cold as death, never thirsty, ever drinking, all in mail, never clinking.
Door: Oh… it’s those, you know… *looks at Gobbles* Like him, but in water. It’s a… a… what is it?
Gobbles: Those would be called “fishes”.
Door: Yup, see, I knew it exactly.
Surina: But he answered it for you.
Door: Yes, yes, but I knew the answer. One more, one more. Easier. For the one who didn’t answer. Easier.
Surina: Easier?
Lysithea: Easier? That’s not my department.
The party stands quickly, looking at each other.
Lysithea: Fine. A box without hinges, key, or lid, yet golden treasure inside is hid.
Door: Oh! It is like *looks at Alba* what that thing lays! That owl-like creature. Is it an owl or an eagle? It’s an egg!
Lysithea: Yes.
Door: Okay! Well, that was entertaining. Thank you so much for that fun.
The door swings open!
Gobbles: Do you want to go on an adventure with us?
Door: Adventure? I’m stuck.
Gobbles: Are you the doorknob or the whole door?
Door: I… don’t know…
Lysithea: We can come back for the door. Come inside this next room.
The next room is shockingly pleasant. The room is a comforting warm, and the air smells of cinnamon.
Door: I’m going to close and let you all rest in here. *swings shut*
Lysithea: Oh, thank you.
Surina: Thank you.
Inside stands a statue of a large being holding a basket of food. (Religion Alba 18) The statue is of The Father of the Volcano, Vulcan, the god that lives in the Ocan’queb volcano. The basket of food is filled with food from the volcano region, Lysithea’s home: cactus fruit, water filled-berries that have learned to grow from volcanic ash, and peppers and chilies of all kinds and spice levels.
Lysithea: Why is this here? Did they steal it? If this place was built to keep Fey out, why is this here? (Investigation 23)
Lysithea finds marks on the floor, showing where the statue had been dragged in from. Although apparently stolen, this room is clearly a safe space for rest. While this was happening, Gobbles was trying to talk to the doorknob through the closed door. He eventually turns around and, upon seeing the statue holding the basket, immediately runs over to the food and starts to eat it. Gobbles sighs a happy sigh as he feels the effects of a full night’s rest. The rest of the party take a quick look at each other, then join in with Gobbles in consuming the food. A rush of warmth hugs the party as they all feel fully rested and restored.
Gobbles: Alright everyone, I have a plan. We have a new ally that we’re going to take with us. He will be able to guard our Truckasaurus. We’re going to install him on the Truckasaurus.
Surina: He’s just a door, Gobbles.
Lysithea: Okay, but is he the whole door or just the doorknob?
Gobbles: We can get the Professor to figure that out later. We need to save him from this place.
Lysithea: We have to get through this whole place. You wanna carry the whole door?
Gobbles: Yeah.
Lysithea: We can come back for the door…
(Arcana Lysithea 29) Lysithea gives the door a close inspection and concludes that the living part is just the doorknob, not the whole door.
Lysithea: It’s just the knob.
Gobbles: Hey, new friend, you can go on an amazing adventure with us if you want to. You’ll be able to ask people riddles and move around and see the world and stuff.
Doorknob: Okay. That sounds… yes, okay!
Gobbles: What’s your name?
Doorknob: I don’t think that’s a riddle I’ve ever been asked…
Gobbles: Well, we’ll figure it out. *turns to party* See, we can put him on the door to the Truckasaurus so he can only allow us in and let us know if somebody tries to steal it.
Lysithea: That’s actually a good idea. So how do we get the doorknob out without breaking or killing the magic on him? We should really let Professor come get the doorknob.
Doorknob: What’s the answer to that riddle, by the way? The one that’s “what is my name”?
Gobbles: We’ll have to get back to you on that.
Lysithea: Yeah, it needs to be pretty fantastic.
Much to the DM’s delight, the party decides to move on from the doorknob and room of rest. They approach the door with intricate carvings to the left. (Investigation Surina 19) Glyphs adorn the door, but none of them are magical; however, many provide warnings in Deep Speech.
Lysithea Translates: “Beings have been sealed within, designed to battle against the Fey. Beings that shut down magic”. Oh guys, I’m screwed…
Surina also points out two grooves in the door where pendants were once placed, but have since been taken out.
Lysithea: Rhu’s creating things that can fight against Fey because he’s mad at them.
Surina gently pushes the door open, and Gobbles prepares to go back into sneak-mode. They hear a ROAR as they are greeted by an Aeorian Reverser and an Aeorian Nullifier.
Gobbles, Lysithea, Surina: OH NO!!!
Alba: What?!
Gobbles: KILL THE THING WITH THE MOUTHS! KILL THE THINGS WITH THE MOUTHS!
Lysithea: Yes, kill it quick cause they throw up anti-magic fields!
Alba: Is it anti-magic itself?
Gobbles: It can do some crazy things, but it needs to die immediately.
Lysithea: They render me useless.
(Arcana Alba Nat20) Alba recalls from her studies that antimagic fields that can be cast are usually done so in a 10ft radius around the caster, and require concentration. Anything magical if the field is dispelled, spells cannot be cast, summoned and conjured beings disappear, and magical weapons are suppressed. (Initiative Gobbles 17, Alba 13, Lysithea 19, Octavia 12, Surina 4)
Begin Frustration Fight
Lysithea immediately casts Synaptic Static, hoping to catch both the reverser and nullifier in a burst of psychic energy. The reverser is able to withstand the attack and takes only 19 psychic damage, but the reverser takes the full effect. Its thoughts become muddled as it takes 38 psychic damage. The reverser charges forward…
Gobbles: Hi.
… and bites at Gobbles, but Gobbles is too nimble and leaps out of the way. Gobbles continues to bounce and avoid attacks, but the reverser learns his pattern and swats Gobbles down with a mighty claw. Gobbles takes 10 slashing and 9 force damage as he is hit to the ground; luckily, his fall causes him to avoid being struck again. Gobbles (acrobatics Nat20) skitters up the reverser’s face, then jumps off the top of its head behind it and runs towards the nullifier. He casts Hexblade’s Curse on the nullifier, then takes a swing at it with his Slime Sword (attack 18). The nullifier takes 6 slashing, 4 Fury of the Small, and 9 fire damage from Green Flame Blade. The nullifier’s many mouths start mashing as it casts an anti-magic field. Lysithea quickly reacts with counterspell, but the nullifier counters with its own counterspell. Lysithea is able to beat the nullifier’s counterspell, but her own counterspell was not strong enough to nullify the field. The nullifier becomes surrounded by an anti-magic field, suppressing the effects of Synaptic Static. The mouths begin to gnash with malicious delight as Lysithea lets out a defeated sigh.
Alba conjures her Spiritual Weapon next to the reverser. The spectral standard swings at the reverser (attack 17) and smacks it across the back for 13 force damage. Alba follows up with Toll the Dead, but the reverser is unaffected by the fireworks popping in its ears. Octavia casts Lightning Arrow and fires at the reverser (attack 16). The arrow of lightning strikes the reverser in the hip for 24 lightning damage. Gobbles, in the nullifier’s anti-magic field, is struck by some of the residual lightning, taking only 5 damage. Octavia fires a regular arrow at the nullifier, hoping to break its concentration (attack 12), but the nullifier is protected by corner cover. Surina rushes in, Dragonsword pointing forward (attack 17), and pierces the reverser in the chest. She casts Thunderous Smite as she strikes, dealing 5 slashing, 12 fire, and 4 thunder damage to the reverser. The entire dungeon shakes as a thunderous boom echoes through it, and the reverser gets pushed back 10 feet and falls prone. Surina walks up to the reverser and stabs it again (attack Nat20) for 14 slashing and 34 fire damage.
Octavia: Yeah Surina! Woo!
Gobbles: Let’s turn up the heat!
Lysithea: That’s our girl!
Lysithea decides to add her own purple flames to the fire now engulfing the reverser and casts Scorching Ray (attack 18, 25, 25). All three rays hit the reverser for a combined total of 21 fire damage. The reverser stands up, skin scorched, and strikes back at Surina. Surina is able to block the bite attack with her, but the reverser is able to claw at her arm for 6 slashing and 7 force damage. It swipes back up at her with its other claw for an additional 8 slashing and 8 force damage. (Gobbles wisdom saving throw 6) The sound of gnashing mouths terrifies Gobbles, stunning him in the process. The nullifier attacks the now useless Gobbles, but Gobbles’s orange mythril armor protects him from every attack. Alba moves her spiritual standard to attack the reverser (attack 16) for 9 force damage. Once again she follows with Toll the Dead, but this time the fireworks popping in its ears are too loud and the reverser takes 13 damage. Octavia casts Hunter’s Mark on the reverser and sends two arrows flying towards it (attack 19, 15). Both arrows pierce the reverser in the chest for 12 and 10 damage. Surina wants to get rid of the reverser so that the party can focus on the nullifier (attack 19). She jams her sword into the reverser’s throat for 5 slashing and 17 fire damage. The reverser falls backwards, void of life.
Surina: Yay!
Octavia: Yeah! Murder! Murder!
Surina turns her focus onto the nullifier, and marches towards it; however, as soon as she enters the anti-magic field the magical flames on her Dragonsword die out. She stares at her extinguished sword for a second, then swings at the nullifier (attack 25), striking it for 11 slashing damage. Unfortunately, the nullifier maintains concentration on the anti-magic field.
Lysithea holds her action in hopes that someone will hit the nullifier hard enough to break its concentration on the anti-magic field. Gobbles looks around for a place to run, but the awesome presence that is Surina gives him the strength to overcome the horrific gnashing of the mouths.
Gobbles: Alright, let’s crunch this guy!
Gobbles scurries around the nullifier to flank with Surina and tries to knock the goobers out of it (attack 16), but he whiffs his swing. The nullifier claws back at Gobbles, smacking him across the face for 22 slashing and 4 force damage. It goes in for another attack, but bangs its knuckles on Gobbles’s shield. Angered by the throbbing pain in its hand, the nullifier strikes Gobbles with all of its might, for 13 slashing and 11 force damage, grappling the Goblin in the process. Gobbles does not look good.
Gobbles: I need an adult!
Alba: Oh no! And I can’t heal you because you’re in an anti-magic field!
Alba runs up towards the nullifier and prepares to heal Gobbles as soon as the field is dropped. Octavia hopes to break the monstrosity’s concentration and fires 2 arrows at it (attack 11, 11), but neither of her arrows can pierce its hide. Surina (wisdom saving throw 25) is completely unphased by the disgusting gnashing of the mouths. She slashes wildly at the nullifier (attack 13, 23). Her first attack misses, but her second attack hits for 5 slashing damage. The nullifier maintain’s concentration.
The party spends a couple of rounds striking the nullifier, hoping to break its concentration on the anti-magic field. Even Lysithea runs up and smacks it with her quarterstaff a few times, yelling at it to take down its field. They widdle down its health, but the nullifier’s will is strong and it continues to maintain concentration. Even Surina’s mighty strikes don’t break the concentration. In turn, the nullifier tries to eat Gobbles, the creature of Fey that dared enter its domain. Its hatred of Gobbles grows as it just can’t seem to kill this tiny Goblin. After what seems like an eternity, Surina lands a mighty blow and the anti-magic field FINALLY drops!
Lysithea: IT’S STUPID AGAIN!
Lysithea, (wisdom saving throw 16), unaffected by the gnashing mouths, immediately casts Blight, but the nullifier casts Counterspell. Lysithea reacts quickly and Counterspells the Counterspell at 5th level, so the nullifier takes the full 47 necrotic damage. Gobbles, still grappled by the nullifier (wisdom saving throw 13) becomes unsettled by the nasty mouths of the nullifier, and becomes stunned. The nullifier tries, yet again, to eat the tiny Goblin, but Gobbles either manages to bend out of the way, or reacts with Shield and remains uneaten. The nullifier screams in frustration! Why won’t this tasty Goblin get in its mouths?! Alba (wisdom saving throw 12) becomes confused by the sounds of the nullifier’s mouths, and accidentally attacks Gobbles instead (attack 16). Luckily, Alba misses. She then sends her Spiritual Weapon in to attack the nullifier (attack 12), but also misses. Octavia is over this nonsense, and sends two arrows flying at the nullifier (attack 21, 25). The arrows pierce the nullifier for a total 24 damage. The nullifier is on death’s door.
Lysithea: SURINA, FINISH IT!
Ocativa: Do it! Murder!
Surina remains unaffected by the gnashing mouths of the nullifier, (attack 15) but the first swing of her sword goes just a little too far to the left and she misses. She grits her teeth, casts Searing Smite, and swings again (attack 18). This time she carves through the nullifier for 11 slashing and 9 fire damage, sending the nullifier to the great beyond. The party, breathing heavily, let out a unified sigh of relief.
End Frustration Fight
Gobbles uses Lay on Hands to heal himself 3 points. Alba rushes over to him and casts Cure Wounds on him, healing him an additional 29 points. The party is ready to be away from this space, and quickly head towards the next area. In front of them to the right lies a staircase that leads up to a platform with a set of stairs leading back down, and on the left was a staircase that leads up to a different platform. Gobbles immediately runs up the staircase on the right, but then somehow runs down the staircase of the left.
Lysithea: Gobbles… did you just break the space-time continuum?
Gobbles: I think I did, again, yeah.
Lysithea: Again?!
Gobbles runs back up the staircase on the left, but then runs down the staircase on the right back to where he started.
Gobbles: Uh… I need an adult.
Lysithea: Well, unfortunately you just have us.
Alba and Lysithea start to inspect the staircases to see what kind of magic is causing this (arcana Nat20). They discover that this is a powerful conjuration spell to create a non-euclidean loop. The spell must have been cast by a powerful wizard, because they conclude that not even Dispel Magic would not break the loop. Alba walks up the staircase that Gobbles just came down, and ends up walking up the staircase on the left.
Octavia: OH, OH, OH! Okay. I got this.
Octavia walks backwards up the staircase that Gobbles came down, then finds herself staring down the staircase on the right, but facing forward instead of back at the party. She then walks forwards down those stairs and finds herself in the next area. Lysithea catches on immediately and, following Octavia’s footsteps, walks backwards, then forwards to the next area. Gobbles, having the attention span of a goldfish, walks backwards up the first stairs, then backwards again down the next stairs, and continues to moonwalk in a never-ending loop. Lysithea and Octavia start shouting at Gobbles, trying to get him to turn around once he gets to the platform. In the meantime, Alba and Surina have successfully made it to the next area. Gobbles, having now seen 4 other people make it successfully up and down the stairs, continues to take the wrong way. After way too much time, Gobbles finally hears the shouts of his friends and correctly makes it down the stairs.
What else awaits the party in this anti-Fey dungeon? Find out next time! End session.
